Sometimes-
My wife and I just sit
And - stare at each other
No one has ever
looked at her
like that before
That's what she says

Her therapist says
"He's passionate."
And she's right-
I am passionate, but
Not in correlation to
How I look at my wife

You see-
We stare at each other straight in the eye
But don't see eye to eye
She looks at me
dead in the eye
And she's just dead in my eyes.

Sometimes-
I'll stare at my reflection in her pupil
I stand under light fixtures
And see myself mirrored
with a golden halo of light.

Man, you should see me
I've never seen anything like
How I look in my wife's eyes-
Like an angel-
Man, you really should see me.

You see-
I look in mirrors and I hate
I break the glass and shut the lights
And cut my wrists
And cold cry out
The gushing blood
But not with her.

You see-
I see myself in her eyes and I'm frozen
Sometimes I smile
And I'll
Stare and stare for hours
At my wife's bright eyes reflecting.

You see-
She doesn't see what I see
You see
She sees a sight for sore eyes
When I see that I'm
just an eyesore.

And even though
I like how I look in her eyes
        Man, you should see me,
        Like an angel.
I know the truth
And that makes her a fucking liar.

You see-
That means she stakes false claims on love
And her words fall on deaf ears
And I'm blind to how she's touched by me
I smell of rotten evil.

But, you see-
She reminds me
Of who I want to
And should be
And I escape under light fixtures
Sprouting wings and golden halos.

So, you see-
Sometimes
People look at us and say,
"See? Look how they look at each other so lovingly."
But really,
We're both just looking at me.

Man, you really should see me.
       Like a fucking angel.
